My Silver Award
Related to country: United States

My name is Rosie, I'm a ninth grader from NY. I've been a Girl Scout since I was in first grade and I've just completed my Silver Award. I love to read and write, so I decided to teach a free workshop on writing short stories. I plan to be an author and an English teacher when I grow up, so this was someting that I could really enjoy telling people about.
The Silver Award is given after a Girl Scout successfully does something to benefit her community. (There's also a bunch of paperwork and technical stuff involved, but you get the idea.)I decided to teach writing because I know that a lot of kids have trouble writing. There are many cases where the writer knows in their own head what's going on in the story, but it just doesn't make it to the page. I wanted to help with this.
I held the workshop on Wednesday September 21 from 4pm to 5pm. It went really well and the girls who came had a great time. (Sadly, I didn't have any boys show up, but it still went great.) I taught about protagonists, antagonists, climaxes, and plots. I also explained the use of descriptive language.
All in all, the workshop was a big success and everyone who came was well educated in the art of story writing by the time they left.
